Caldey Island Access Statement

  • The island is open from Easter to the end of October, weather permitting. It is closed on Sundays and on some Saturdays in April and October. For details see Opening Dates
IN TENBY
  • A Park and Ride bus is available from Tenby's North Beach Car Park to the harbour when the Tenby pedestrianisation scheme is operating (School summer holiday period).
  • Car parking is available in Tenby, at the Multi-Story Car Park, Salterns Car Park and North Beach Car Park - pay and display. All are within 10 -15 mins walk from the harbour.
BOARDING THE BOATS
  • There is assistance to help all people on and off the passenger boats.
     
  • Access to boats is via Tenby Harbour steps at high tides.
     
  • At low tide boats leave from a mobile jetty on Tenby Castle Beach.   The jetty has a railed walkway leading to a boarding platform.  Access to the mobile jetty involves crossing up to 100 metres of sand, so can present a problem for wheelchairs and those with walking difficulties.*
  • Landing on Caldey is via a wide concrete slipway. At very low tides landing is via a specially adapted landing craft.
  • Boats and landing craft can take wheelchairs, but do not have access ramps for independent wheelchair users. All necessary assistance will be given.
ON THE ISLAND
  • There is a site map on arrival and leaflets at the harbour ticket office and island post office.
    A comprehensive guidebook is on sale in the post office and gift shop.
  • There is a tea garden/picnic area which is on level ground.
  • There are toilet facilities in the village, with baby changeing table.
    A disabled cubicle is available, fully adapted for independent wheelchair users. 
             
  1. The site is on concrete roads with coastal and woodland walks which are optional.
  • Some shop doorways have steps - assistance is available from staff.
  • A wheelchair is available for loan from the Gift Shop.
  • Assistance dogs are allowed in all areas. (All other dogs to be kept on leads).
  • There are group discounts for disabled people, coach parties and educational visits .
  • There is a public phone box and mobile networks available.
